Feb Wonder Woman, Batwoman, and Book of LilahWonder Woman #4 and #5: Okay I’m not quite sure what’s going on in the plot because I haven’t read #2 and #3, but I am really enjoying the new Wonder Woman comics so far. It took me a while to get on board without any prior knowledge of Wonder Woman’s story, but I’m glad I took these home with me.
Batwoman #6: Kudos to Amy Reeder! I psyched myself up by reading all of her recent interviews and then was worried about raising my expectations too high but I loved this issue and the artwork. I really like the new format of having different timelines and characters, fleshing out Batwoman’s universe.
Reaching the bottom of my free comic book pile:
Book of Lilah (Jack Monaco and Javi Fernandez)- 25 Valentine’s Day cards
Did you know I once considered becoming a librarian? I volunteered at my college’s library for a semester, enjoyed it for the most part, then looked up the projected outlook for how librarians would be faring by the time I finished school…and decided against it. It would have been a totally different story if I could have become a Keeper, the ancient protectors of human knowledge as illustrated in Book of Lilah. It’s another “kid discovers secret hidden organization” story, but I really enjoyed it because it was a fresh take on this trope. Lilah is a charming protagonist, as evidenced by this panel of LOLs:
Okay so if the Keepers are so advanced and whatever, why the hell don’t they have a computer system with every book and idea they’ve ever confiscated? I don’t envy the artist who had to draw all of those books as the kids ran around this gigantic old library, but it was a helluva lot of fun to read. That said, the artwork rocked, especially the settings. I’m not sure I’m on board with the whole “the Keepers are protecting humans from themselves” stuff, but I just really loved the idea that all libraries everywhere are connected through underground tunnels. Re-readability: in 6 months, to laugh at Lilah’s banter and look at the pretty library artwork.
